Bulgaria has a good harvest of grain and will be able to export 2 million tonnes

Bulgaria has a good grain harvest and will be able to export 2 million tonnes of production this year. This was announced in Pleven by Georgi Milev, chairman of the Regional Association of grain-producers, referring to data from sectoral organization.

We will not speculate in prices, but we will ask as much as our colleagues in Europe receive, where wheat is traded at 200 euro per tonne. Even if our price is lower, it should not fall drastically below their, Milev is convinced.

If purchase price does not satisfy us, we will seek conversion of our production abroad because some interest have already been shown by Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania and Greece, said Milev.

The association is already negotiating with French entrepreneurs about the export opportunities of feed barley from Pleven through the Danube to the European countries.

The idea of our organization is to contact major buyers from abroad and to realize our production, the farmer explained. According to him, the price per tonne of barley should not fall below 300 leva, to absorb the costs, and farmers to achieve profit with which to modernize their business and make it more competitive.

Pleven Region has become the second granary of our country after Dobrudzha in the amount of grain produced, say agricultural experts. This summer will be harvested production from 973 000 hectares of wheat bread and 203 000 hectares of barley.
