Indonesian police detained one man believed to be linked to terrorist activities Tuesday and seized bomb-making materials at a house in suburban Jakarta, the country's police chief said.
General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said counterterrorism police conducted the raid at a rented house in the northern suburb of Plumpang, the state-run Antara news agency reported.
The officers seized dozens of bullets, 3 kilograms of explosive material believed to be TNT, bomb-making manuals, pipes and cables.
The owner of the house was taken in for questioning, but the man who was renting it was not there. Police were pursuing on him.
Indonesia, which has the world's largest Muslim population, has been hit by a string of terrorist attacks blamed on Jemaah Islamiyah, a regional terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda, since 2000. They include bombings on the resort island of Bali in 2002 and 2005 and on the Australian embassy in Jakarta in 2004. The attacks killed more than 240 people.
