During the first two weeks of June the trend of reducing prices of goods with a strong seasonal factor has been maintained - fruits, vegetables, dairy products and eggs reject experts from the State Exchange and Wholesale Markets (CEWMSC).
The reduction of prices of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, eggs and some of the basic foodstuffs (sugar, flour, vegetable oil), affect the values of the index of traded prices and till June 13 in the index level had been reported a drop to 1.733, which toward the end of May was a decrease of 1.82 percent.
The greatest going down of prices during the first two weeks of June was in grown under glass tomatoes - 30 percent, strawberries - 27 percent and cherries - 24 percent. By about 10 per cent has fallen price of green peppers and bananas. In the range of 2 - 5 percent is the decrease in prices of apples, oranges and potatoes. After the sharp drop in the price of cucumbers observed in May during the first half of June their prices rose slightly as compared to the end of the previous month figures were by about 7 percent higher.
However, the price at which cucumbers were traded in June this year was 31 percent lower compared to the same month last year, reported CEWMSC.
During the first few weeks of June, a reduction in the price of eggs has been reported - by 12 percent, cow's cheese - 4 percent, yellow cheese "Vitosha" and sugar - by 1 percent. During this period was observed stabilization and a slight decrease in prices of flour - by 2 percent and in that of oil - by one percent (3.25 leva / kg wholesale).
The trend of smooth rising in the price of beans (4 percent) and lentils (2 percent) has been saved from the previous month. The greatest rise during the first few weeks of June towards last May has been registered in the price of rice - 10 percent to 2.2 leva per kilo.
As a result of the price increase of most food products in the summer last year, the basis, to which are compared this year's prices is very high. Therefore, prices of most goods in June, 2008 are higher compared to the same month of 2007.
The greatest surging in prices in the current year was recorded in the price of oil, which during the first weeks of June, compared to the same period of 2007 was by 81 percent higher. By about 60 percent more expensive are flour, lentils, beans and rice. The increase in the price of dairy products, eggs and chicken is in the range of 15-30 percent on an annual basis. This year price of sugar is lower by around 2 percent.
In prices of fruits, exception for strawberries, are also registered higher prices compared to last year, as the highest increase is in apples - 56 percent. Cherries during the first few weeks of this June were traded at a price by 28 percent higher over the same period last year. Strawberries this year are cheaper by 13 percent.
Vegetables also have lower prices this year and cucumbers and potatoes are cheaper respectively by 31 and 20 percent compared to the last year. More expensive in early summer this year are green peppers - by 26 percent, while the price of tomatoes approaches the values recorded during the same period of 2007, informed by CEWMSC.
