Sofia has proved to be the city with the lowest quality of life among all in the European Union.
This was showed by data of a survey made by the British consultancy company "Mercer".
The company "Mercer" prepares an annual ranking of large cities worldwide according to quality of life indicators and personal security they offer.
In both lists Sofia is the lowest ranked capital of an EU country, falling significantly behind Bucharest.
The study covered 215 cities worldwide.
The Bulgarian capital occupies 117th position in the world in quality of life and comes after Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul and Beijing.
The top positions in the ranking belong to Zurich and Geneva, as well as to the Austrian capital Vienna. Vancouver in Canada is on 4th position.
The last seats are occupied by Brazzaville (Congo), Bangui (Central African Republic) and the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
In the study was evaluated also the level of security in different countries.
Luxembourg, Berne and Geneva seem to be the most secure cities in the world.
The most dangerous are Karachi (Pakistan), Kinshasa (DR Congo) and Baghdad.
In this ranking Sofia is on 117th position, and comes after cities like Bangalore and Chennai (India), Tripoli (Libya), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Hanoi (Vietnam).
Sofia, however, is not the most dangerous city in the region.
According to the ranking the level of personal security is lower in the neighboring Skopje, Tirana and Istanbul, which have taken respectively 151, 171 and 182 positions.
