YouTube turns its users over

In accordance with the decision of the court in New York Internet search engine Google, which owns YouTube hosting, will have to provide information about the videos watched on it and IP-addresses of its users to Viacom (owner of MTV, VH-1 and others).

The total information which the search engine will provide amounts to 12 terabytes.

Viacom lodged a complaint against Google in March 2007, accusing it of publishing of more than 160 thousand illegal video clips on the servers in YouTube being the holder of the rights.

Up to date, illegal watching of clips according to the company has exceeded 1.5 billion watches, which means that damage caused by Google exceeds 1 billion dollars.

The data about YouTube users and their playlists will be needed by Viacom to prove its claims that the stolen materials are more popular than the legally issued ones.
